Sydney (Friday, November 4, 2022): Pakistan overcame South Africa by 33 runs in the crucial Group B encounter of the T20 World Cup to keep their prospects of reaching the semi-finals alive.
The national team’s victory over South Africa ensured that the two semi-finalists from Group 2 would be determined after all of the teams had completed their final game.
India presently leads the group with 6 points, however, a win vs Zimbabwe will send them to the semi-finals, while a loss will force them to rely on run rate.
South Africa is second with 5 points and will require a must-win against the Netherlands to advance to the semi-finals. If the Proteas suffer an unexpected setback at the hands of the Netherlands, whoever wins the tournament will be the winner.
Pakistan’s progress to the semi-finals is contingent on beating Bangladesh and defeating India and South Africa. If the Netherlands defeats South Africa and Pakistan defeats Bangladesh, they will have 6 points, surpassing South Africa and advancing to the semi-finals.
If both India and South Africa lose their remaining matches, Babar XI would not only qualify for the semi-finals but will also finish first in the group, but this seems doubtful.
On the other side, if the Indian team overcomes Zimbabwe and South African Netherlands, Pakistan would be eliminated from the tournament.
